Cyclone Winston hit the country in early 2016 and wrought considerable damage which destroyed homes, schools, buildings, power lines, telecoms infrastructure, agriculture and so forth. In the wake of the cyclone there was around $200 million worth of damage done to crops which caused food shortages and prices to escalate. Up to 80% of the population lost power.
